Multiple Bans In Less Than A Week Of Modi Government

Phew! That was quick!

ANNNDDDDDD HERES ANOTHER BAN!

What is happening? We are just four days into the week and our beloved Indian Government has banned multiple things already!

And the latest one dampening all my spirit. Just when I keyed in the piece on a Bollywood version for 50 Shades of Grey and was all excited, I should have trusted the government to burst my bubble immediately afterward by banning the movie in India.

What else was banned in the last four days?

1. BEEF is banned

Maharashtra Government ultimately did get the approval on the #BeefBan they’ve been trying to pass for almost two decades! Now, if anyone is found in possession or intention of selling beef, they cough up a fine of Rs 10000 and go to jail for five years! Woohooo… Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan, Gaai ki baksho jaan 😐

2. SPEECH

Well, I could keep listing on since the Censor Board banned 28 swear words to “keep the moral fiber of the country strong” and asked the filmmakers of Dum Laga Ke Haisha to drop and/or replace several words in the movie. So Ghanta became Thenga, Harampana became Chicori Pana, Haramkhor was changed to Kathor while Lesbian was completely muted and wasn’t even worthy of replacement!

Censor board, we’re so proud of you nitwits! *slow clap*

3. India’s Daughter is banned and gone

While we watched each scene with a heavy heart and listened to each word with rapt attention, we couldn’t do so on the television because our Government has banned BBS Storyville’s documentary featuring the 2012 Delhi Rape from airing on Indian Television. The documentary isn’t insulting to Jyoti Singh aka Nirbhaya, as most reports tell you. It is a heart-wrenching account of a wonderful, brave girl who fell prey to monsters. I loved it but sadly, following the ban BBC removed the film from its YouTube channel.

4. Firangi Parties

Yeah, you read it right. The Karnataka Government, as it turns out, has moved to ban any party where foreigners and expats are invited unless it is under strict police vigil and a harsh set of rules are complied with. But fellas – Party ho gayi toh after party abhi baaki hai! 😀

5. Fifty Shades of Grey

This just makes me sob!

Reminder – this has happened within the last four days. Enjoy the posts until they’re lost, or worse – banned! It’s quite the possibility!
